The Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom (FNF) is the German foundation for liberal politics, established in 1958. The work of the FNF is based on the democratic education of responsible citizens, policy advice for leaders, and international political dialogue. In 60 countries around the world, the Foundation focuses its efforts on cooperation with its partners to create and promote strategies that generate liberal proposals for the development of the countries in which it operates. These proposals emphasize the importance of an informed and participatory society and promote the value of freedom, the virtues of liberal democracy, respect for human rights, and the institutions of the rule of law. In addition, the FNF promotes the sustainable development of smart cities that combine economic growth with the goal of improving individuals’ quality of life.

In Central America, the Friedrich Naumann Foundation has been present for more than 35 years. Currently, the Central America Office is headquartered in Mexico City, from where regional work is coordinated through the Alianza para Centroamérica, which brings together think tanks, civil society organizations, as well as liberal political parties with which FNF cooperates in Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama.

The Alianza para Centroamérica seeks to contribute to a shared understanding of the challenges facing the region and to develop common liberal positions and policies where appropriate. Its efforts focus on the following topics: entrepreneurship, education, human rights, the opening of electricity markets, smart city development, and leadership training. The Alliance promotes a community of Central American citizens that empowers a generation of leaders in freedom to build a region that allows each individual to fulfill their aspirations.
