Implications of the Green Deal for Türkiye’s EU Accession Process

Our joint meeting with the Economic Development Foundation (IKV) on "Implications of the Green Deal for Türkiye’s EU Accession Process was held at the Van Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VANTSO) on September 28, 2023. It aimed to shed light on the impact of the European Green Deal on Türkiye’s journey towards EU membership.

The event commenced with the opening speeches by Ayhan Zeytinoğlu, Chairman of the Board of Directors of İKV and KOSANO, and Necdet Takva, Chairman of the Board of Directors of VANTSO. Their welcoming remarks set the tone for an engaging and informative discussion.

Kerem Oruç, Deputy Secretary-General of VANTSO, assumed the moderator role for the main discussion. The panel featured three distinguished speakers who provided valuable insights into the topic. Doç. Dr. Çiğdem Nas, General Secretary of IKV, discussed the relationship between the Green Deal and Türkiye’s EU accession process, offering a comprehensive overview. M. Gökhan Kilit, Deputy General Secretary of IKV, focused on the implications of the Green Deal for updating the Customs Union, providing an in-depth analysis. Çisel İleri, Research Director at IKV, presented information on the EU programs and funds in which Türkiye is participating, giving attendees a clear understanding of the opportunities and challenges.

The event concluded with a productive question-and-answer session, allowing participants to further explore the topics and seek clarifications from the panellists.The meeting was a success, offering attendees valuable insights into the implications of the Green Deal for Türkiye’s EU accession process. It served as a platform for constructive discussions and knowledge sharing among key stakeholders in the field.
