Countdown to Christmas
2 - Entrepreneurial Creativity

IAF Advent #2
  • People have the desire and the ability to create something new as entrepreneurs. This desire goes far beyond the pure desire to make a profit.

  • Entrepreneurs need knowledge and many skills. Above all, however, they need courage, perseverance and imagination. Their creativity enriches the world. They have to overcome resistance and constantly review their own ideas.

  • Entrepreneurial creativity is often hampered by ingrained habits and procedures, bureaucrats and small minds. But it is vital for human advancement and prosperity- regardless of what critics and naysayers may have to say.

Ayn Rand - Fountainhead

The architect Howard Roak, the main character of the novel “The Fountainhead”, is a literary figure who perfectly personifies the ideas of the writer and political thinker Ayn Rand. It was and is very impressive to me how he confronts conventions and institutional constraints and takes great risks in doing so. Of course, his radical and destructive actions, with which he defends and enforces his ideas, can also be criticized. For me, they are also shocking at times, for example when Howard Roak shows that creativity may include destruction. As a literary figure, he embodies like few others the aspiration to create something new and better and to deviate from the well-trodden paths accepted by the majority. And that is what both art and entrepreneurship are about.
