In 2004, the Central European and Baltic countries joined the European Union as new members. The Prague office seeks to strengthen liberal forces, both political and intellectual, in the region. Our project office particularly supports the 4liberty.eu network, which serves as a centre of competence and a platform for dialogue.

Ivan Korčok, European Union and RTVS. Disinformation actors in Slovakia continue to build an atmosphere of fear and hatred
The most problematic narratives emerged in relation to the first round of the presidential election. The main target of the disinformation ecosystem was the civic candidate Ivan Korčok. Furthermore, the far-right politicians are spreading disinformations about the climate change and the EU Migration pact as par of their campaign for the EP elections. Moreover, the majority of the disinformation actors has praised the proposed changes to the public broadcaster.

Fateful Elections in Slovakia: Will the Divided Country Break Away From the European Family?
Presidential elections in Slovakia: after none of the candidates achieved the required absolute majority in the first round on 23 March, the two best-placed candidates, government-backed Peter Pellegrini and opposition candidate Ivan Korčok, will go into the run-off at the beginning of April. If Pellegrini wins, Moscow will have another bridgehead in the EU.

From Poland with Love. February
The new Polish government is taking further crucial steps on the road back to a fully functioning democracy and a Western foreign policy. Minister Sikorski is playing a crucial role in this, and despite the rapprochement, he has indicated to Germany that they should pay Poland back in a creative way for reparations for the World War II. Fear-mongering and false calls for peace complement continued attacks on media and journalists
The ruling coalition headed by Robert Fico continues its so-called sovereign foreign policy to all sides of the world. It is accompanied by fear-mongering about Slovakia's involvement in the war in Ukraine, as well as continuous false calls for peace. The meeting between the Slovak and Russian foreign ministers in Turkey earned praise from the disinformation ecosystem and the media continue to be confronted with themdeceitful rhetoric from government officials.

From Poland with Love - Januar
The beginning of the year was a very intense period for Poland, both in terms of political changes and disputes. Two former ministers have been imprisoned and the country has seen the current coalition and the opposition fight over their case. In addition, changes are taking place in other areas. The youngest schoolchildren are being freed from homework and Polish state television has been depoliticised after 8 years.

From Poland with Love - December
After obstruction by the President of the Republic himself, the Polish Sejm finally elected Donald Tusk as Prime Minister. The new government took immediate action and, among other things, depoliticized Polish state television. During the election of the new Prime Minister, an anti-Semitic incident occurred in the Sejm building.

Deepest Condolences by FNF Prague
Yesterday, a student at Charles University in Prague shot 13 people and injured 25. Condolences have been sent from all over the world. Tomorrow, the whole country will commemorate the victims with a national mourning. Our thoughts are with all grieving families and friends.
