The Andean Countries Office of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom develops its activities in Peru, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Bolivia and Venezuela. Together with the partners of the foundation, organizations or individuals, it seeks to promote democratic, free and entrepreneurial societies.
Ecuador in a State of Emergency
Ecuador has been deeply divided for some years now. Not even the liberal-conservative President Guillermo Lasso, elected in 2021, has been able to change this situation. On May 17, Lasso dissolved the National Assembly, Ecuador's parliament, following impeachment proceedings and resigned from office. This unusual but constitutional measure was supposed to clear the way for new elections, scheduled for August 20, 2023. Now, the election campaign has dramatically generated great uncertainty in the country: the murder of presidential candidate Fernando Villavicencio, journalist and former member of Ecuador's National Assembly, just 11 days before the presidential elections, has plunged the country into a deep crisis.

School “Women: Empowerment and Freedom for Development”
FNF - Andean Countries, in partnership with the association Somos Ciudadanía, held the first citizenship school of the year in the Lambayeque region in northern Peru, entitled "Women: Empowerment and Freedom for Development". 50 scholarship holders participated in this workshop, which provided tools to help improve their quality of life and promote gender equality.
