Too much influence for the extreme right

Sweden is experiencing a dramatic change of government. For the first time in the history of the Scandinavian country, a minority government of conservatives, Christian Democrats and one of the two liberal parties is supported in parliament by the far-right Sweden Democrats. A power shift that catapults the far-right into the center of power. While parts of the Swedish Liberals remain skeptical of government participation, the new government under Ulf Kristersson begins work.

Arab wines: Oasis of freedom

They are the fruit of the Coptic Christian or Jewish tradition, of the customs imported from the colonizing countries, especially France, of the demands of tourists or of the courageous entrepreneurship of a handful of businessmen. Wine in the Arab countries of the Mediterranean arc is an inherent part of their culture, uses and customs.

Plummeting purchasing power opens debate on the fate of oil and gas windfall revenues

The fall in oil prices in 2014 put the stability of the Algerian regime on the ropes. With an economy anchored on hydrocarbons and a repressive political model, Algeria entered a convulsive period that would lead five years later to the outbreak of the Hirak, a peaceful national mobilization spurred by the intention of the then President Abdelaziz Bouteflika to run for a fifth time in the 2019 elections. The demonstrators also demanded far-reaching reforms of the State.

What Remains of Macron’s Sorbonne Speech Five Years Later?

Given that the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union just ended, Emmanuel Macron got re-elected for a second five-years-term, and the future of Europe was mentioned by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz already twice in recent weeks (once in the press and once during a speech in Prague) and Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, has given her third State of the Union address, what remains to be done for the future of European policy-making five years after Macron’s Sorbonne speech?
