Deprived and Silenced: The Taliban and Suppression of Access to Information

Under Taliban rule, Afghanistan's access to information has been crushed, plunging the nation into darkness and deepening the humanitarian crisis. This paper explores how the Taliban's media crackdown and infringement on the right to information has silenced voices, dismantled democratic developments, and why urgent global action is needed to restore accountability, freedom and transparency.

Global Power Shifts

This paper addresses the increasingly close relations between Russia and Iran, particularly since Russia's aggressive war against Ukraine. The new power dynamic is a crucial element in Russia's strategic alignment with systemic partners to redefine the international world order. Specifically, Iran's production and delivery of UAVs in support of Russia's war objectives in Ukraine have shifted the power balance from Iran's weaker position to an exchange now occurring on almost equal footing.

Building walls with good intentions – EU trade and sustainability

The EU has increased its ambitions in the fight against climate change and in favour of sustainability. But while it is realigning its trade policy, high walls are being built for non-EU countries. The latest measures, including the import ban on products from forced labour, are evidence of a change that raises questions as well as praise. A study by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation takes a critical look at this development.

In cooperation with the German-Kosovar Business Association, FNF Western Balkans recently published an analysis entitled "Challenges of Accessing the Labor Market - Middle-Aged Women in Kosovo". Addressing these challenges requires, among other things, a comprehensive approach that includes policy measures, a societal shift in attitudes towards gender roles, and the provision of support services for working parents.
