Poland's Constitutional Court to Rule on Legal Battle with the EU

Should the Polish Constitutional Tribunal decide on Thursday that interim orders of the ECJ are not in line with the Polish constitution, this would mean a substantial undermining of the functioning of the EU legal system. Some commentators even talk in this context about a further step towards a PolExit, analyses Natálie Maráková.

The Dwindling Shadow of Iran

After several years of Iranian expansion in the region, reaching a high tide level of controlling four Arab capitals as stated by one of President Rouhani’s advisors , there is a growing consensus that Iran’s influence in the region is waning. Nowhere this is more prominent than in Iraq! In 2020, a new Prime Minister, Mustafa Al Khadimi has taken over, resisting Iranian pressure, and clawing back a more ‘Arabist’ stance for Iraq.

Expressing Civil and Political Liberties in Times of Crisis

This research on the limitation of civil and political rights in Bulgaria, Greece, North Macedonia, and Romania during the first wave of the pandemic focuses on three main pillars: it gives a first-hand insight into the context in which the various governmental measures were introduced; the extent to which those individual rights were affected; and the shape and strength of the citizen’s response to the government-led measures.
