Europe and Greece: a common destiny

The Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom's opinion poll on "EUROPE" shows that Greece's future is linked to its common European destiny. Greece's integration into the European community symbolized - and indeed was - a means to progress: securing national integrity after the Turkish invasion of Cyprus (1974), stability in Greek politics after decades of turbulent history, ending economic backwardness, and rapprochement with other European societies and their high standard of living. Until the 2010s, being pro-European and supporting the Union was almost a given, as Europe was both an ideal and a social prerogative in the eyes of Greeks.

25N | Economic violence, a silent aggression

Why talk about economic freedom on 25N? 27 out of every 100 women have been victims of economic violence in Mexico. Economic violence not only implies a lack of freedom to make financial decisions, but also limits women's access to employment opportunities, health and educational services, and makes them vulnerable to other forms of violence. The lack of economic autonomy creates a cycle of aggression that is difficult to escape.

The Reforming of Netanyahu’s Israel

The Israeli public voted on November 1, for the fifth time in three years for two alternative governments. This time, Netanyahu’s bloc managed to get 64 out of the Knesset’s 120 seats, finally gaining the majority he needed to form a government. Now with a clear majority for his camp, Netanyahu was given the complicated task of forming a government. In the last few months, it became quite clear that these elections will be decided by which bloc has a higher voter turnout, and if they manage to save the smaller parties from disappearing, and thus wasting votes

The Mediterranean olive grove in the face of climate change

There is no doubt that the backbone of the Mediterranean diet is olive oil, and it is precisely the countries of the Mediterranean basin that are the biggest producers. The olive tree is considered to be one of the species best suited and best adapted to the Mediterranean climate, however, in years like this one marked by persistent drought, with excessively high temperatures and lack of rain, olive oil production is being directly affected.

Geopolitics Reshaping the Internet in East Asia

In 2021, United States approved a plan to connect the Asian route of submarine cables with the Philippines and Taiwan under Pacific Link Cable Network (PLCN) framework - bypassing Hong Kong, which previously was supposed to be the endpoint. Undoubtedly, geopolitical realities have changed. Charles Mok analyses for FNF Global Innovation hub what points need to be taken into account when building interconnective infrastructure in Asia.

The limits of tolerance: Popper's paradox

Freedom and tolerance go hand in hand; to be a liberal is to be tolerant. November 16 is the International Day of Tolerance and at the Friedrich Naumann Foundation we believe that we should not forget the important lesson that Karl Popper left us on tolerance: "if we want a tolerant society, we must be intolerant of intolerance".
