The Friedrich Naumann Foundation Beirut Office is focused on Lebanon and it's people. Regional and local turmoil makes the work of the foundation in this country challenging, forcing our office in Beirut to constantly adapt to new social and political changes.In Lebanon, our main objective is to support Lebanese start-ups, civil society organizations and liberal political parties while raising awareness about political education, female empowerement and durable development.
Human Rights Work under attack the Case of Iraq and Lebanon
FNF organized the in-person seminar “Human Rights Work under attack the Case of Iraq and Lebanon” in partnership with the International Federation of Liberal Youth and in collaboration with the Iraqi Organization, Sasa Iraq, and the Lebanese Organization, Nahnoo, to connect civic activists from the two countries, and to identify common challenges for Iraqi and Lebanese Civic spaces.
Expatriates voting analysis - 2022 Lebanese Parliamentary Elections
The expatriates’ (expats) vote in the 2022 Lebanese parliamentary elections has been a frequently discussed topic, with respect to its impact on the results and the role it played helping the Change Movement and independent groups secure additional seats. As part of a series of in-depth research papers on the 2022 parliamentary elections, the Electoral Lab at IFI drew an analysis of the voting trends of the Lebanese Expats or the Out of Country Vote (OCV).
Fe-male: Intersectionality of Digital Safety and Feminist Activism
In collaboration with Fe-male we launched cybersecurity workshops for Women Journalists, Women Political Activists, and Women Human Rights Defenders about cyberbullying and cybersecurity from a gender sensitive perspective to equip them with a toolkit on how to protect themselves online.
In this year’s edition of the OurVoice project, in collaboration with Alsama, young students of the Alsama project attended our two-week workshop in Shatila on visual storytelling, photojournalism, and zine creation held by Erol Gurian and Sara Hteit.
“Women in Politics” 2022 Visiting Program
In collaboration with FNF Jordan, FNF Europe and the International Academy for Leadership (IAF) we visited Berlin and Brussels. This program mainly focused on enhancing essential advocacy skills and enriching the impact of female leaders in defending women’s rights. Our delegations from Lebanon and Jordan consisted of influential female leaders and activists who work in the field of political participation and civic engagement in politics.
Liberal Alphabet T: The Treasure Trove
On September 14th, we hosted our twentieth Liberal Alphabet event “Liberal Alphabet T: The Treasure Trove; what is concealed beneath the Lebanese Offshore?” at Beit Beirut.
Citizenship Summer School 2022
More than 80 students from different universities and different backgrounds came together, from August 23 to August 26, to learn more about the environmental and economic challenges in Lebanon under the umbrella of the 3rd edition of the Citizenship Summer School organized by FNF in partnership with the Student life office at Université Saint Joseph.
