The Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom is proud to have collaborated closely with her and her supporters for many years. This award is an encouragement for the courageous struggle for freedom, democracy, and human dignity in Venezuela.
At the same time, it sends a signal to all those around the world who stand up against oppression and arbitrariness. For over a year, María Corina Machado has been living in hiding and under constant threat to her life.
A large part of her team is in exile. Despite this, she continues to have the support of the vast majority of the Venezuelan population, as confirmed by the results of the presidential elections in July 2024.
The Maduro regime resorted to terror and massive electoral fraud to remain in power. The Nobel Prize recognizes not only her personal courage but also the unwavering determination and perseverance of the Venezuelan opposition in their struggle for a peaceful and democratic future. We understand this award as a call to continue fighting for freedom in Venezuela.
