The Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom has been active in the South Caucasus since 1996. The work began with projects of the political education in Azerbaijan, from 2002 also in Armenia and Georgia. The office is located in Tbilisi, Georgia. The main focus of the work is the transformation process of former soviet republics towards modern democracies with free political systems based on social market economy and the rule of law.

Today, the European Council announced the long-awaited conclusions on the EU Membership candidacy Status for Ukraine, Moldova, and Georgia. The European Commission gave the green light to grant candidate status to Ukraine and Moldova, but limited Georgia to the European perspective, with the prospect of EU membership once all established priorities are fulfilled.

NEW SECURITY ARCHITECTURE IN EUROPE AND ITS IMPACT ON GEORGIA
The conference focused on the recent developments in the world and highlighted the role of Georgia in the new world agenda. "The world is changing. Europe will adapt. But here in Georgia, it is for us to establish our place in Europe and to return to our roots and to the future that we belong to" noted the President of Georgia Salome Zourabichvili.

Armenia and Azerbaijan are restarting peace negotiations
During the 2020 war between Armenia and Azerbaijan, Azerbaijan (aided by Turkey) demonstrated huge military advantage over Armenia and won substantial territories. After watching the war for 44 days, Russia brokered a ceasefire, based on which it has deployed a military contingent in Nagorno-Karabakh, aimed at peacekeeping. Despite this, regular incidents take place at the line of contact, which incrementally shift the ceasefire line in favour of Azerbaijan.
