Advancement of Good Governance Begins in the Most Basic Political Unit

Through the School of Leadership and Governance (SLG), thirty three (33) newly-elected barangay captains from different provinces underwent a series of trainings, collaboratively designed by Kaya Natin! Movement, with UP-National College of Public Administration and Governance (UP-NCPAG), and Friedrich Naumann Foundation (FNF). The SLG is a fellowship program that aims to train and develop local government leaders to work towards addressing problems and issues in their communities. The course, which started in August 2018, ran for four months.

Developing Innovative Ecosystem in the Philippines through Startup Legislation

With the Innovative Startup Bill in place, competition will be further strengthened among the actors in the Philippine economy. The proposed legislation aims to respond to the needs of the growing community of innovative individuals and groups who want to pursue a startup in the Philippines, but is hampered by bureaucracy. The Bill was approved during the third and final reading by the Senate in May 2018, a year after it was filed. Its counterpart in the Congress, however, was only filed in July 2018.

Tanzania – protecting the rights of women and children

In Tanzania’s Kilimanjaro region, many human rights abuses affecting women and children give rise to concern. Customary law, which is still applied by traditional chiefs, exacerbates the situation as it neither protects nor strengthens the rights of these groups in need of protection.
