Comeback postponed - The USA at the WTO

President Biden wanted to use the 12th Ministerial Conference of the WTO to signal the US comeback one of the guarantors of the global trading system and show American willingness to increase cooperation on global trade issues. However, because of the spread of the new Covid-19 variant Omicron the meeting has been postponed indefinitely.  This comes at a time when the WTO faces immense challenges from countless different angles.

On 17 October 2021, Kosovo organised its fourth local elections since its declaration of independence on 17 February 2008.
In the first round on 17 October, there was no majority for any candidate in twenty-one of Kosovo’s thirty-eight municipalities, resulting in a run-off on Sunday, 14 November 2021.

Renewable energies in the Mediterranean: from the ambition of the Desertec project to the actual need for a real Euro-Mediterranean Green Deal.

It was under this premise that one of the most ambitious projects ever conceived to supply three continents with clean energy was born in 2003: the Desertec project, which aimed to create a network of renewable energy production centers, mainly concentrated solar energy, between Europe and the Middle East and North Africa, with the objective of producing enough electricity to cover a large part of the demand of the countries in the region in 2050.

Renew Europe becomes a strong French voice - Stéphane Séjourné takes over as leader of the Liberal Group in the European Parliament

French MEP Stéphane Séjourné was elected on Tuesday 19 October in Strasbourg as the new leader of Renew Europe, the third largest group in the European Parliament. This will increase French influence within Renew, which has a total of 23 French MEPs. Séjourné was already chair of the French delegation Renaissance within the liberal group and, as a former advisor to Emmanuel Macron in the Elysée Palace, is considered as his loyal companion.
