Use of Technologies in the Russia-Ukraine War

The 21st century has brought significant new developments in warfare. Technological development, both intuitively and intentionally, led to upgrades in military operations and tactics. The Russian invasion of Ukraine is an evident demonstration of how new technologies have shifted traditional warfare. However, the concept of war did not change, as Clausewitz noted: “War is thus an act of force to compel our enemy to do our will”

Is Georgia Russia's next target?

The Russian invasion of Ukraine is also awakening new fears and concerns in other former Soviet republics. Example: Georgia, where Russian soldiers had already invaded at Putin's command in 2008. Former Georgian Defense Minister Tinatin Khidasheli (2015 - 2016), who has been connected to the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for many years, analyzes the situation.

Follow the money in "Qatargate"

The noose of accusations against top European politicians is tightening. For a few days in mid-December, new reports came to light every day that discredited the European Union's only institution with direct democratic legitimacy, the European Parliament. The damage is considerable. If the European Union does not want to lose the last trust of its citizens to the already existing Euroscepticism, it must act quickly and reform its institutions to counteract the image of an elitist and self-enriching political caste.

Life on the back burner: How Ukraine's food industry survives without light

The Russian missile attacks have left Ukraine's energy infrastructure in ruins. This is having a particularly severe impact on civilian life in Ukraine. However, Russia's new war doctrine also poses an existential threat to the Ukrainian food industry and the general food supply. Despite the danger to life and limb, the destroyed infrastructure, the interrupted logistics and the shortage of labour, the companies managed to adapt and work under these conditions, as an analysis by our experts Maximilian Luz Reinhardt and Tetyana Ustymenko reveals.

Slovakia in chaos before Christmas: the collapse of the government is only the beginning

In Slovakia, the conservative-populist minority government of Prime Minister Eduard Heger has been brought down by a vote of no confidence. President Zuzana Čaputová dismissed the government the following day. However, the political crisis in Slovakia is far from over. Apart from the fact that Slovakia does not yet have an approved budget for next year, early elections are now likely to be held, the outcome of which could change Slovakia's foreign policy direction from West to East.
