Skills development going virtual

As a skills development advisory solutions provider, Atlegang Social Intelligences operates through a wide network of experts who provide a diverse portfolio of skills, expertise and business perspectives. They deliver training to young people in South Africa, a country that is desperate for skills development. Because of their target demographic, who are predominantly in marginalised communities in South Africa, they delivered their training programmes in person before the COVID-19 pandemic hit.

When COVID-19 hit, they had to move to virtual learning. "We drew our facilitating abilities and technologies to bring classrooms to living rooms via smartphones. Our learners remain engaged. We provided data and tutored them on how to maximise use of their devices. They are now more tech-savvy than before," says co-founder Mashadi Monaledi.

They have now been able to get their learners to work from home offering employment opportunities which have enabled them and their families to survive financially while keeping safe and healthy.

On World Innovation and Creativity Day, 21 April 2021, the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom in Sub-Saharan Africa invited entrepreneurs, innovators and creatives across the region to submit the most innovative solutions they have made that have helped their initiatives, start ups, businesses re-establish or survive during the COVID-19 pandemic. This forms part of the FNF 2021 global campaign titled RE:START21

We ask, what can we learn from the pandemic? Let's talk new ideas! #Restart21
