The Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom has been active in the South Caucasus since 1996. The work began with projects of the political education in Azerbaijan, from 2002 also in Armenia and Georgia. The office is located in Tbilisi, Georgia. The main focus of the work is the transformation process of former soviet republics towards modern democracies with free political systems based on social market economy and the rule of law.

Meet Tinatin Khidasheli from Georgia
I am not simply a conscious liberal,” says Tinatin Khidasheli, Georgian human rights lawyer, academic, politician, and an ex-Defence minister – the first female one her country and the Caucasus has seen. “I am an instinctive liberal – it is not just from reading books, it happened to me naturally.” Currently, she heads a Georgian think-thank, Civic IDEA, fighting the soviet legacy in Georgia, confronting Russian propaganda, and advocating for a sound defence and security policy for Georgia while also teaching in academia.

One Day of Pride
Tbilisi Pride, Belgrade Pride, and Sofia Pride – these three events represent a huge step forward for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and intersexual (LGBTI) people in Georgia, Serbia, and Bulgaria. The Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom supports Prides all over the world because they draw attention to the human rights situation of LGBTI communities and are an effective and visible instrument for civil society.

Real Story of Lie tells you the story of how propaganda and disinformation work in Georgia, who are victims, and who is in charge of these campaigns. The movie investigates the ways fake news websites operate in Georgia and how the state may benefit by distributing fake news through social media.

Prisoner of Conscience: Afgan Mukhtarli
In May 2017 Afgan Mukhtarli, an Azeri investigative journalist living in self-imposed exile in Georgia was kidnapped and a day later appeared in a detention center in the Azeri capital Baku.
