The Regional Office in Sofia coordinates the following Project Offices in the region: Bulgaria and North Macedonia, Greece, Romania and Moldova, Western Balkans, Russia and Central Asia, Ukraine and Belarus, South Caucasus and Turkey.

First Lieutenant Yulia Mykytenko: “Men no longer refuse to serve under my command because I am a woman”
Yulia Mykytenko joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine on a contract in 2016 together with her husband. After doing the “work for women” at the headquarters, she entered The Hetman Petro Sahaidachny National Army Academy, returning to the front as a combat officer. After the death of her husband in February 2018, Yulia went to work at the Kyiv Military Lyceum. In the special project "The Unbreakable", Mykytenko talks about how the Ukrainian army changed and how important it is to be in your own place.

After the successful premiere in Sofia, the documentary portrait of Denitsa Lyubenova is storming the international film festivals. Starting on a national basis at the Sofia Pride Film Fest in Bulgaria, the documentary makes its way over the neighboring country North Macedonia all the way to Berlin, Germany and London, the UK. "Think Freedom: Freedom is an Action' tells the story of the human rights lawyer and activist Denitsa Lyubenova of the LGBTI organization Deystvie.

Ukrainian human rights organization receives Nobel Peace Prize
On Saturday, the Nobel Peace Prize will be awarded in Oslo - among others to the Ukrainian human rights organisation Center for Civil Liberties. Oleksandra Matviichuk will receive the prestigious prize on behalf of the organisation, which was founded in 2007 with the aim of promoting human rights and democracy in Ukraine and prosecuting human rights violations and war crimes. She is an ambassador of the Female Forward campaign of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom.

Strategic Rethinking: New NATO Strategic Concept and EU Strategic Compass
The main goal of the conference is to discuss the complexity of current risks and threats to the regional and global security, predominantly those arising from the Russian aggression against sovereign Ukraine. Keeping in mind the potential global dimensions of this war, the conference will also discuss possible responses to the Russian hybrid warfare against the democratic world, including weaponization of the energy supplies, propaganda, fake news, cyber-attacks and others. At the same time, it will take into consideration all other threats such as terrorism, migration, natural disasters, climate change and many others.
