Martin Kothé is the Project Director of FNF’s Jerusalem Office. From 2000 to 2026, he served as the foundation’s Regional Director for East and Southeast Europe out of Sofia. Prior to that, he was serving as Managing Director at FTI Consulting, Spokesperson for German President Horst Köhler, and Communications Director of Germany’s Free Democratic Party FDP. A journalist by profession, he started his career at the BBC’s German Service in London.

The pro-European majority successfully counters the attack from the right
The 2024 European elections were characterised by a high voter turnout and intense political debates. Despite the rise of extreme right-wing and left-wing parties, the political centre was able to maintain its position. This ensures the continuation of European integration, the protection of democratic values and increased defence cooperation. A clear signal to the world: the EU remains a stable and unified force.

Polarization is a lethal threat to democracy
Find the interview with Martin Kothé for for the Premiere of Black Book of Government Waste 2020 for the Bulgarian daily newspaper, Dnevnik. Again, we at FNF were able to compile 15 stories of inefficient or questionable spending of Bulgarian citizens’ money, including indications of corruption or conflicts of interest. By pointing out these cases, we invite Bulgarians to demand transparency and accountability from the authorities. We believe Bulgarians have a right to know how their money is spent, and the people’s money should create welfare.
