💬 What holds a community together when its members disagree on some of the hardest questions facing their society? At our recent “Rethinking the Conflict” weekend seminar in Haifa, we made room for those disagreements. Together with our Israel’s Liberal Voice alumni from diverse backgrounds we examined approaches to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict after October 7 and the war. The starting point was clear: nobody had to endorse a particular solution to belong in the conversation. 🔎 Across three days, participants examined Israeli & Palestinian perspectives, strengthened arguments they did not necessarily share, and explored the constraints of negotiation through a “peace-talk simulation”. 🤝 We want to thank everyone for helping us create a space that was both challenging and respectful. How can we encourage and empower women’s leadership and participation to strengthen Palestinian communities in East Jerusalem? 💪🏾 This is the central question of a research- and community-based project we are conducting this year together with our partner מכון ירושלים למחקרי מדיניות - Jerusalem Institute for Policy Research and additional local stakeholders. As part of this initiative, we visited Diyar, a community center in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Issawiya. We had a fascinating exchange with the center’s leadership about community resilience and cohesion in times of crisis, and about the important role women play in the economic and social development of their communities.
