FNF has been actively working in Turkey with partners from civil society, academia, economy and politics since 1991, when we opened our office in Ankara. In 2002, we moved to Istanbul. Turkey is of crucial importance for Germany, Europe and the transatlantic cooperation due to its history, culture, economy, and geographical location. Therefore, FNF offers support to liberal-minded citizens and organizations in Turkey to promote liberal values in the society. This way, we strive to contribute to a liberal, democratic and prospering Turkey for all citizens.
Türkiye Training Programme 2023: Anatolia Workshops Phase
In November, our partner European Neighbourhood Concil (ENC) in collaboration with FNF Türkiye, organized a series of workshops with the university students in the Southeast Türkiye with the aim of understanding EU key thematic priority areas like green energy and environment, foreign policy, polarization, independent institutions and free media and their relevance to EU-Türkiye relationcs.
EU Green Deal and its Effects on Turkiye’s Climate Policy
Organized by the Economic Development Foundation (IKV) and the Friedrich Naumann Foundation in cooperation with the Economic Policy Research Foundation of Turkey (TEPAV) and the Istanbul Policy Center (IPC), the "EU Green Deal and its Effects on Turkiye’s Climate Policy" meeting provided participants with valuable insights on changing environmental policies and their impact on Turkey in various fields.
Turkey-Greece Journalists’ Dialogue
The First Turkish-Greek Journalist Dialogue Meeting, organized by the Media and Legal Studies Association (MLSA) and its Athens-based partner Foreign Media Association with the support of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation (FNF), brought together media representatives from both countries. They united around a joint declaration to break down the labels and stereotypes that exist in the media ecosystems of Turkey and Greece and to promote balanced journalism.
Partner Capacity Building: Navigation a Polarized Society
As FNF Türkiye, we organized our annual partner capacity building workshop in İğneada, Kırklareli this year. Our partners working in a wide range of fields of civil society came together for three days. During this workshop, we discussed how to build social trust in a polarized environment.
Utilizing Digital Technology for Social Cohesion, Positive Messaging and Peace by Boosting Collaboration, Exchange and Solidarity
The fourth panel of the project "Utilizing Digital Technology for Social Cohesion, Positive Messaging and Peace by Boosting Collaboration, Exchange and Solidarity" focused on "Algorithmic Design in the Context of Human Rights" at the Hrant Dink Foundation’s Havak Hall on November 10, 2023. The panel featured discussions on topics such as the impact of recommendation algorithms on vulnerable users, the consequences of algorithmic governance on platforms like Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and Amazon, and the role of social media algorithms in contributing to echo chambers and promoting populism through disinformation.
"There is no place for harassment and violence in my workplace"
The YANINDAYIZ Association, in collaboration with the Friedrich Naumann Foundation, successfully completed Phase Two of the "There is no place for harassment and violence in my workplace" project, focusing on blue-collar workers in the textile industry.1291 blue-collar workers in the selected cities received training on gender-based violence and awareness of workplace violence. Using pre-training and post-training-tests, a perception analysis has been conducted. Read the findings here.
