FNF has been actively working in Turkey with partners from civil society, academia, economy and politics since 1991, when we opened our office in Ankara. In 2002, we moved to Istanbul. Turkey is of crucial importance for Germany, Europe and the transatlantic cooperation due to its history, culture, economy, and geographical location. Therefore, FNF offers support to liberal-minded citizens and organizations in Turkey to promote liberal values in the society. This way, we strive to contribute to a liberal, democratic and prospering Turkey for all citizens.

18. Bodrum Roundtable
The Roundtable is the annual flagship event of the Istanbul think tank Center for Economics and Foreign Policy Studies (EDAM), which this year was organized in cooperation with the Center for European Reform (CER) and brought together Turkish and international foreign policy experts, policymakers and journalists . The three-day event was supported by NATO and the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom, among others.
Combating Hate Speech and Disinformation Against Social Polarization and How to be a Fact-Checking Influencer
As part of the series organized within the scope of the project “Utilizing Digital Technology for Social Cohesion, Positive Messaging and Peace by Boosting Collaboration, Exchange and Solidarity”, the first panel “Combating Hate Speech and Disinformation Against Social Polarization” took place on October 7, 2022, continuing with a workshop on "How to be a Fact-Checking Influencer" on October 8, 2022.
3H Movement XIII. Liberal Youth Congress
Our partner 3H Movement, which has been active in the fields of human rights, economic freedoms, and rights advocacy in Turkey since its establishment in 2006, held its XIII. Liberal Youth Congress with the support of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation. The theme of the congress this year was "New Turkey", drawing attention to the human rights violations in Turkey, censorship in the press and media, and the economic crisis.
Freedom Trilogy: Öykü. Onur. Ferda
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights was proclaimed on 10 December 1948 at the 183rd session of the United Nations General Assembly held in Paris. Our partner Civil Production created a human rights-oriented project by using the empathy power of theater through fictional stories based on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which is being performed on different stages in Istanbul.
Volunteered Geographic Information
Our partner Turkish Economic and Social Studies Foundation (TESEV) has been working on mapping studies in Istanbul and Bodrum that started in 2022 and question how a process can be designed to allow the free flow of local information and with the voluntary participation of communities in disaster management.
Capacity Building: Crisis Communication
The pandemic reminded us how important it is to be prepared for a worst-case scenario. Therefore, the FNF Turkey Office decided to have capacity-building training with all partners to build a more resilient community in Turkish civil society.
