The Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom (FNF) Türkiye Office and the FNF Global Security Hub, in cooperation with Prof. Dr. Mustafa Aydın, have prepared the report “Türkiye at Crossroads Amid Geopolitical Shifts – Lessons for Europe and Türkiye.” The study examines Türkiye’s evolving foreign and security policy in a rapidly changing geopolitical landscape, analysing its balancing strategy between Western allies, Russia, and emerging partners, its search for strategic autonomy, and recent signs of recalibration towards cooperation with Europe. It also provides policy recommendations for Türkiye, the European Union, and European countries to strengthen cooperation in security, defence, and regional stability in an increasingly multipolar international order.

The key insights of the report are further explored in a video discussion featuring Prof. Dr. Mustafa Aydın and Aret Demirci, where they reflect on Türkiye’s geopolitical positioning, its relations with Western partners, and the implications for the future European security order.

To present and discuss the report’s findings, a series of events were organised in Brussels and Berlin with the participation of Prof. Dr. Mustafa Aydın and Aret Demirci, Head of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation (FNF) Türkiye Office. The Brussels event brought together policymakers, experts, and stakeholders to explore Türkiye’s potential role in Europe’s emerging security architecture and to discuss opportunities for renewed cooperation between Türkiye and European partners.

The Berlin leg of the programme continued these discussions with expert audiences, including a presentation and exchange at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP), fostering strategic dialogue on regional security dynamics and Türkiye–Europe relations. The programme overall aimed to create a platform for policy dialogue, networking, and exchange with decision-makers and liberal stakeholders in Europe.
