Climate variability across regions, as well as climate change as a cause and a risk multiplier for human displacement in West Africa, the Maghreb and the Sahel are the central themes of this publication produced by FNF Madrid and IEMed (European Institute for the Mediterranean). The project explores new perspectives on one of the main drivers on migratory flows for the upcoming decades in the region. This report combines analysis and approaches for policy makers on climate change and migration affecting countries of origin, transit, and destination in the Euro-Mediterranean region. During the presentation, we would like to discuss how to tap into the great potential that the Euro-Mediterranean region has to offer, as well as how to yield valuable synergies in the area of adaptation strategies for climate change.
Our speakers for this online event from the Mediterranean Coalition at the COP28 will be Amal El Ouassif, Senior International Relations Specialist at PCNS, Matías Ibañez, Project Manager Policy Area at MedWaves, and as a Keynote speaker, we will welcome Ambassador Grammenos Mastrojeni, Deputy Secretary General for Climate Action at the Union for the Mediterranean. The session will be moderated by Valeria Sinisi, Mediterranean Dialogue Project Manager at FNF Madrid.
