The congressional elections held in Argentina on 26 October confirm a clear direction: the ideas of freedom and reform enjoy strong support among the Argentine people. President Javier Milei now has a solid electoral mandate to continue, together with other reform-minded forces, on the path of stabilisation and transformation aimed at securing a prosperous and sustainable future for the country and its people.

In his post-election speech, President Milei struck a presidential, constructive and conciliatory tone. He emphasised his intention to build majorities in Congress to push through the necessary structural reforms and strengthen cooperation with provincial governors, who play a crucial role within Argentina's federal system. This new political balance opens the door to a phase of increased cooperation and institutional maturity.

The progress achieved in the second year of government shows that a policy of openness, deregulation and fiscal discipline can restore stability and confidence in a country that has long been characterised by inflation, economic decline and uncertainty. However, economic recovery requires broad political consensus to ensure that growth and prosperity are sustainable in the long term. The Argentine people have shown that they are ready for change: they have chosen to focus on freedom, personal responsibility and competition as drivers of progress.

Germany, too, is at a turning point. Our country faces the challenge – but also the opportunity – of implementing structural reforms that can revive growth, competitiveness and confidence in the future. Just as Argentina has successfully taken decisive steps towards stabilisation and modernisation, Germany must also demonstrate the political courage to reform: reducing bureaucracy, improving the long-term sustainability and incentive systems of social welfare programmes, and creating the conditions for innovation and entrepreneurship.

Argentina's experience shows that profound change is possible when guided by determination, transparency and a clear long-term vision. For Germany, this moment of profound geopolitical change can be an opportunity to provide new impetus, strengthen institutions and reaffirm our commitment to the principles of openness and individual freedom.

From Buenos Aires to The Hague to Berlin, the message is clear: the path to success is liberal. Only through greater openness, innovation and trust in individuals can we revive our economies, strengthen our democracies and secure prosperity.
