Tbilisi
The Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom has been active in the South Caucasus since 1996. The work began with projects of the political education in Azerbaijan, from 2002 also in Armenia and Georgia. The office is located in Tbilisi, Georgia. The main focus of the work is the transformation process of former soviet republics towards modern democracies with free political systems based on social market economy and the rule of law.

The Documentary "Another House" depicts the life of Georgian citizens who emigrated from Georgia. The film explores the reasons why young people had to make the difficult decision to leave their country for the possibility of finding safety, freedom and an authentic life.

Georgia: Next Steps on the Road to the European Union
"Georgia's EU aspirations face challenges as it falls behind Ukraine and Moldova. In a panel discussion, German and European representatives, along with Georgian leaders, addressed the country's path towards EU integration and the necessary steps for successful collaboration between Georgia and the EU."

Pro-European uprising in Georgia
In early March, thousands of pro-European demonstrators gathered in Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia, to protest against the passing of the so-called "Foreign Agents" law, which was perceived by the majority of the population as pro-Russian. The aim of the protest was to secure the path to the EU as written in the constitution of Georgia. Despite the police crackdown on protestors, the protestors held out and the bill was voted down.

The war in Ukraine has a major negative impact, especially on countries that suffer from territorial conflicts and have experienced wars in which Russia played an important role. Are old fronts in the Caucasus now breaking up again because Russian troops are tied up in Ukraine? What political reactions followed the Russian invasion of Ukraine in Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia?

Circumventing Russia: Can the South Caucasus connect the West to the East?
“The South Caucasus - a region considered by its inhabitants as the center of the world and by outsiders as the edge of nowhere” goes a saying. However, the Russian war in Ukraine and the war in Nagorno-Karabakh shifted the geopolitical situation radically. The region can play a bigger role because of recent geopolitical events: the Russia-West conflict, Chinese expansion, EU energy crisis. Probably one of the biggest in the long history, if communication networks are opened: potential East-West corridor that will connect China with Europe and the South-North corridor that will connect India with Europe.
