The association of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom with Sri Lanka is nearly five decades old. During the period 1968 to 2013, and upon recommencing its work in 2016 the Foundation's work focuses primarily on the core values of freedom and responsibility. The Foundation's contribution to Sri Lanka's political, socio-economic development over the years is well accepted, recognized and appreciated by legislators, opinion leaders, academics, and civil society actors.

Sri Lanka: Sustainability as an advantage and driver for tourism!
Sri Lanka welcomed 2019 more than two Million tourist who visited the island, often called the ‚Pearl in the Indian Ocean‘ providing work and income for 473.000 persons. The income from tourism contributes upto 6 % to the Grand National Product (GDP) of the country. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic all airports were closed for incoming traffic, no tourist could arrive anymore. Tourism collapsed.

Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom, together with NextGenSL, organised an event named "iLead", which was held on the 8th of March to commemorate International Women's day and shine a spotlight on what reforms women felt they deserved, through having ten highly accomplished women to make a ten minute speech on what they would change and do differently if they were to become president.
