In 2004, the Central European and Baltic countries joined the European Union as new members. The Prague office seeks to strengthen liberal forces, both political and intellectual, in the region. Our project office particularly supports the 4liberty.eu network, which serves as a centre of competence and a platform for dialogue.

Sanctions against Russia have become the primary topic of disinformation spread in Slovakia. Oversimplification and appeal to strong emotions accompany the whole debate. Even though disinformers often use factual information, they misinterpret them and parrot Kremlin propaganda. They try to undermine the actions of the European Union and call Slovak partners and allies’ intentions into question.

In the last two weeks, disinformers in Slovakia have focused on discrediting its allies - whether the US or NATO as a whole. They are trying to downplay Russian crimes in Ukraine by incorrectly comparing them to the NATO bombing of Kosovo. Recently, even absurd conspiracy theories have been on the rise - whether on health-related topics or on the European Parliament's recent vote on banning fossil-fuel cars.
