During the first week of June, the Latin American Liberal Network (RELIAL), with the support of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom in Latin America and Europe, accompanied a delegation from CEDICE Libertad on a working visit to Brussels aimed at strengthening political dialogue between Europe and Venezuelan civil society. The agenda included meetings with representatives of the European Parliament, the European External Action Service, the European Commission, European liberal political organizations, and entities dedicated to promoting democracy and human rights.
The mission aimed to foster international support for a democratic transition in Venezuela that fully incorporates civil society as an essential actor in the process. From a liberal perspective, the country’s institutional recovery will require not only political agreements but also independent organizations capable of putting forward proposals, generating knowledge, promoting public policies, and contributing to the strengthening of the rule of law.
CEDICE Libertad’s participation reflects the trust that the Friedrich Naumann Foundation has placed over the years in one of its key partners in Venezuela. Its track record in promoting freedom, the market economy, public policies, and civic education makes it a leading voice in Venezuelan civil society and a reliable partner for engaging with international actors on the challenges and opportunities of the transition.
The meetings also helped to strengthen ties between Europe and Latin America around a shared agenda of defending liberal democracy. The exchange with European institutions and political organizations reaffirmed the commitment to keeping Venezuela a priority on the international democratic agenda and to strengthening cooperation with those working toward a peaceful, institutional solution that respects fundamental freedoms.
As a network that brings together liberal political parties, foundations, and think tanks in the region, RELIAL played a coordinating role, introducing European stakeholders to the experiences, proposals, and vision of Venezuelan civil society. The agenda helped build bridges between the two regions and promote political dialogue based on shared values such as democracy, freedom, the rule of law, and the market economy.
The visit is part of the commitment by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation and RELIAL to strengthening liberal networks and supporting those in democratic politics and civil society who are working for a free Venezuela. At the same time, it helped forge closer ties with European stakeholders who share the conviction that a democratic transition will require strong institutions, political leadership, and an active civil society.
