FNF x VEPR: Summer School 2023

Should online games be subject to special consumption tax? What policies have been issued in the US to curb inflation? Why are the new regulations on fire safety and rescue standards in Vietnam giving businesses a hard time?

These were among various topics brought up for discussion between speakers and participating students at the recent Summer School 2023, organised by the Vietnam Economic Policy Research Institute (under the University of Economics and Business, Vietnam National University Hanoi) in collaboration with the Friedrich Naumann Foundation in Vietnam, from 7 to 10 September.

Themed ‘Public policy analysis and planning from an economic and legal perspective,’ the programme was joined by industry experts who are researchers and business leaders. FNF Vietnam’s Country Director, Prof. Dr. Andreas Stoffers, attended and gave a lecture on developing policies and laws in the context of globalisation.

During the programme, 30 students from universities across the country had the opportunity to gain a basic understanding of economic and legal thinking while studying about sector-specific and interdisciplinary policies, along with the actual or potential impacts of future policies.

As Vietnam strives to develop its market economic institutions, improve the business environment, and accelerate deeper integration into new generation free trade agreements (FTA), it is essential to conduct analysis and evaluation of the impact of socio-economic and environmental policies and regulations.

After four days, the programme concluded with positive emotions, serving as a meaningful activity for participating students. The speakers and students engaged passionately in discussions as well as building connection, contributing to the success of the programme./.
