Women Leading the Energy Transition
Tunisia in Motion: Charting the Path Toward a Low-Carbon Future
In an inspiring show of engagement and forward-thinking dialogue, the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom and the Tunisian Women Network for Energy Transition (TWINET) joined forces for a powerful morning dedicated to “Tunisia in Motion: Toward a Sustainable and Low-Carbon Economy.”
The event gathered experts, institutions, startups, and policymakers around one shared goal: to accelerate Tunisia’s green transition and strengthen its position as a regional partner in the global shift toward sustainability.
Three Panels, One Shared Vision
The discussions unfolded through three complementary panels, each shedding light on a key dimension of the low-carbon transition:
Decarbonization of the Planet: Issues and Challenges
This first panel examined the global context of decarbonization, highlighting international policies, carbon taxation mechanisms, and opportunities for Tunisia to position itself within emerging carbon markets. Experts emphasized how the country could leverage these markets not only as an environmental tool but also as an economic opportunity for growth and innovation.
Deployment of the Low-Carbon Strategy in Tunisia: Vision and Actions
Institutions such as STEG and GIZ–ANME engaged in a constructive dialogue on the national roadmap for a low-carbon Tunisia. They discussed key enablers, existing barriers, and the policy coherence needed to scale up renewable energy projects and foster energy efficiency across sectors.
Accelerated Decarbonization and Innovation
The final session brought together innovative Tunisian startups like Chkarty, Proverdy, Chrysoptera, and Smart for Green, alongside legal and ecosystem experts. Their exchange showcased how innovation, technology, and entrepreneurship can serve as catalysts for an accelerated transition offering homegrown solutions to global challenges.
💡 From Ideas to Action
Throughout the discussions, one message resonated clearly: Tunisia’s energy transition is not a distant aspiration it is an urgent and achievable priority.
From exploring carbon taxation and clean energy challenges to analyzing how Tunisia could act as a strategic energy partner for Europe in times of crisis, the panels underscored the potential of Tunisian expertise, innovation, and collaboration.
