Renewable Energies: A Strategic Response to Tunisia’s Climate and Energy Challenges
As part of our ongoing collaboration with the Laboratoire d’Intégration Économique Internationale (LIEI), we are pleased to share a key document addressing the urgent climate and energy challenges facing Tunisia.
Authored by Mr. Houssem Eddine Hmida and Ms. Hela Tlili, the policy paper titled "Renewable Energies: A Strategic Response to Tunisia’s Climate and Energy Challenges" provides a deep analysis of the country’s vulnerabilities and outlines a strategic roadmap to accelerate the renewable energy transition.
Tunisia is experiencing a perfect storm: climate stress is intensifying, natural resource management remains inefficient, and fossil fuel dependence continues to hinder resilience. The paper examines these root causes in depth and offers practical, tailored solutions inspired by international best practices, such as those of Spain, Morocco, and Costa Rica.
One of the paper’s main contributions is its realistic roadmap for scaling renewable energy, especially solar and wind power. It also emphasizes the need for financial innovation, institutional reform, and public-private partnerships to enable the shift towards a clean, inclusive, and future-proof energy model.
In a recent radio interview, co-author Ms. Hela Tlili emphasized the urgency of rethinking Tunisia’s energy model and engaging stakeholders in this critical transition.
