Since 2023, People Powered, a global hub for digital and participatory democracy, has collaborated with us to update and develop a series of online resources for digital participation. These resources include the Online Training on Digital Participation and Participation Playbook. In 2025, we are also honored to collaborate with them to release the new version of Digital Participation Guide.
The new content about AI and global case studies of best practices came just about time. We use AI in our lives so often and everyday we discover its potential of being applied for new purposes, but we also worry about its discovered and undiscovered risk. It’s the same for citizens who are exploring how AI can incentivize and facilitate people’s participation. The new chapter on AI in this guide has identified the scope and purposes that AI has been applied for participatory programs by studying global cases; for example, how AI is used for transcription, translation, analysing transcription and other purposes. Based on the real-life experience and expert’s knowledge, the new guide analysed how citizens design their participatory program to enable these features of AI to become a real helping forces instead of merely advocating for technology as ultimate solution. The new chapter also list the risk of using AI in participatory program and strategy and recommendations to prevent it.
