Denuncia.org: 5 years promoting access to justice
In Mexico, millions of people who have been victims of crime face an alarming reality: they do not know how to report it, are afraid to do so, or feel that their efforts will be fruitless. This scenario fuels a cycle of impunity that is reflected in the high number of unreported crimes, an indicator that shows how many crimes are never recorded. In response to this context, Denuncia.org was created with a clear mission: to offer useful, accessible information focused on people's experiences to facilitate the path to reporting crimes. Why? The reason is simple: not reporting crimes is not the solution. This would only fuel the cycle of impunity, as victims of crime would remain silent.
Over the course of five years, this platform has demonstrated that citizen innovation can become a powerful tool for empowering those who seek justice. With detailed guides, accessible content, and visual resources created with Mexican designers and illustrators, Denuncia.org is a reference point for women, young people, and human rights groups seeking reliable guidance. Its impact is measured not only by the growing number of users, but also by the quality of collaborations, workshops, and participation of key stakeholders such as prosecutors, journalists, and local authorities, who have found in this project a bridge to better understand the real needs of citizens.
The relevance of Denuncia.org transcends national borders. The experience it offers is an example for other countries with similar challenges in terms of access to justice. Many institutional systems in the region and around the world share obstacles such as a lack of clear information, mistrust of authorities, and inaccessible procedures. In the case of Mexico, there is also a new reform of the justice system. In this sense, Denuncia.org is not only celebrating its fifth anniversary: it is also prompting reflection. Civil society can support the public sector and the authorities by promoting a greater culture of reporting and recognition of human rights.
In an environment where impunity affects millions and institutions face structural limitations, projects such as Denuncia.org become models of effective action by civil society. Their experience shows that information can be a form of power, that technology can bring solutions closer, and that international cooperation can transform a local initiative into an example with global reach.
Five years later, the mission remains the same: to accompany those who seek justice, to highlight the obstacles they face, and to show that citizens are capable of creating tools that open the way to information and justice for all
