Third Week of the Workshop
Small Steps with AI, Real Tools

AI Workshop

Friday, July 18: Building with AI and WordPress

The third week of the MiniSTEPNAU 2025 workshop brought participants back to the Friedrich Naumann Foundation’s Jordan office in Amman. Laptops were open. The mood was focused. It was time to build.

After covering the basics in earlier sessions, the group—made up of refugee and local youth—was ready to move forward. This time, they explored how to create websites using WordPress, with support from AI tools that made the process easier to manage.

The session was led by Maher Al Tiari, a Yemeni entrepreneur and former STEPNAU 2023 Hackathon winner. He introduced tools that could help participants write content, choose layouts, and develop simple websites.

“This was the first time I saw how AI can help me write content and even choose designs. It made the process feel possible,” Ayat said.

Each participant worked on a personal project. Some created spaces for small businesses, others shared causes or ideas. The results were modest but meaningful.

“I always thought websites were only for big companies. Now, I have a website for my handmade perfumes,” said Mohammed.

By the end of the session, everyone had a live website—simple, personal, and their own.

Saturday, July 19: Exploring Automation Tools

The next day, the group returned for another session with Maher. This time, the focus was on automation.

Using a tool called n8n, participants learned how to set up simple systems that could support their websites. These tools didn’t require code. They helped with tasks like sending messages or replying to enquiries automatically.

The highlight of the session was building a basic chatbot.

“I didn’t know I could build my own chatbot without writing code. This opened a new world for me,” said Fatima.

“Now my website can reply to people even when I’m offline,” added Arafat.

These tools weren’t just technical—they offered a sense of control. For many in the group, the idea that a website could keep working, even in the background, felt new and useful.

A Quiet Shift

The sessions this week weren’t about showing off what could be done. They were about small shifts—learning something new, trying it out, and leaving with something real.

Participants left with basic websites, early automation tools, and a clearer idea of how they could build their digital presence in a way that suits their needs.

MiniSTEPNAU continues to offer space for exploration—calm, focused, and grounded in practice. Not everything needs to be big. Sometimes, it’s enough to just begin.
