On the sidelines of the MED9 Summit in Slovenia, His Majesty King Abdullah II met with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to advance dialogue on shared priorities between Jordan and Europe.

A Milestone in EU–Jordan Relations

The discussions reaffirmed Jordan’s central role as a reliable partner in promoting regional stability, cooperation, and sustainable development. President von der Leyen announced that the first-ever EU–Jordan Summit will be held next year, marking a new chapter in bilateral relations and the implementation of the EU–Jordan Strategic Partnership, valued at €3 billion.

A Shared Vision for Growth and Innovation

This partnership focuses on renewable energy, green transition, and innovation — areas that align with Jordan’s vision for economic modernization and digital transformation. Both sides emphasized their commitment to creating opportunities for youth, fostering entrepreneurship, and strengthening governance systems that encourage transparency and private-sector growth.

Expanding the Mediterranean Dialogue

King Abdullah’s meeting with the Greek Prime Minister also highlighted joint efforts in energy interconnectivity and the Mediterranean’s role as a hub for cooperation and investment. The talks reflected Jordan’s growing presence in the Euro-Mediterranean dialogue — a platform that values open markets, cross-regional partnerships, and sustainable policy design.

Looking Ahead

As Jordan deepens its collaboration with Europe, the upcoming EU–Jordan Summit is expected to lay the groundwork for stronger institutional ties and more inclusive growth, reinforcing the principles of freedom, dialogue, and partnership that lie at the heart of liberal cooperation.
