September Energy
Intentions for a Freer Future
As September unfolds, many people take the chance to pause and set new intentions. For some, it means personal goals: learning a skill, embracing new routines, or reconnecting with friends. At the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom (FNF), it is also a moment to reflect on the values that guide our work — and how they translate into action for a freer, fairer future.
Equal Opportunities for All
Freedom begins with equal access to opportunities. Whether in education, the job market, or political life, societies thrive when everyone has the chance to grow and contribute. Yet, women still represent only 14.4% of Jordan’s Parliament, and youth under 30 make up more than 70% of the population — but remain underrepresented in decision-making roles. FNF’s programs in Jordan and the MENA region aim to amplify these voices, making sure potential is not overlooked.
More Listening, More Democracy
In an era where misinformation spreads faster than facts, listening is as important as speaking. Globally, over two-thirds of internet users say they encounter false information online at least once a week. Dialogue builds bridges where divisions exist, and critical thinking strengthens democratic culture. Through workshops, courses, and open forums, FNF provides safe spaces where young people can debate, learn, and imagine solutions — not only for today’s challenges but also for tomorrow’s aspirations.
Solidarity with Refugees
September is also a reminder of resilience. Jordan alone hosts 670,000 registered refugees, according to UNHCR (2024), the majority of whom are Syrian, alongside Iraqi, Yemeni, Sudanese, and Somali communities. The actual number is likely higher, as not all refugees are officially registered. For refugee communities, the month is another step in long journeys of adaptation and hope. FNF works alongside refugee entrepreneurs, artisans, and innovators, supporting them as they turn skills into livelihoods and ideas into realities. Solidarity, in this sense, is not charity — it is cooperation grounded in freedom and dignity.
Youth Shaping Tomorrow
Every generation redefines what freedom means. In Jordan and across the MENA region, young people are at the heart of this change. With 63% of the population under the age of 30, the potential for transformation is immense. By nurturing leadership, entrepreneurship, and civic engagement, we ensure that tomorrow’s societies are more inclusive, open, and forward-looking.
Looking Ahead
September intentions are more than a seasonal ritual. They reflect the long-term vision that freedom requires constant care and collective effort. At FNF, our intention is clear: to keep creating spaces for dialogue, opportunities for growth, and pathways toward dignity for all.
Because freedom, like September energy, is about renewal — the courage to start again, and the determination to move forward.
