FNF Jordan Interns: Curiosity, Creativity, Purpose

As the new internship term begins on-site at the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom (FNF) office in Amman, Jordan, we are pleased to welcome back five bright minds from the German Jordanian University (GJU). These students bring with them not only prior familiarity with our mission, but also fresh energy, personal goals, and renewed curiosity.

FNF and GJU share a strong institutional partnership through a long-standing internship agreement — one that reflects our shared belief in practical learning. Through this collaboration, we are proud to offer GJU students the opportunity to apply their academic knowledge in a real-world, professional environment while gaining hands-on experience in the fields of policy, communication, and liberal values.

To mark the start of the term, we asked each intern five questions to better understand their outlook, aspirations, and the personal values they carry into this new chapter.

Here is what they had to say:

Rosette Haddadin

Enthusiastic. Curious. Helpful.

That’s how Rosette sees herself, and it shows in her thoughtful approach to this term. Her primary goal is to translate her academic knowledge into hands-on experience in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

When asked what energizes her, she gravitates toward creative tasks — especially those with a message. “If I could design a campaign at FNF,” she says, “it would focus on encouraging young people to engage more actively in their communities and understand their rights.” For Rosette, youth participation, democracy, and creative communication go hand-in-hand.

She’s also hoping to sharpen her skills in public speaking, social media writing, and message framing — all with the aim of becoming a more impactful communicator.

Jinan Farwaji

Creative. Open-minded. Inquisitive.

Jinan enters this internship term with a clear intention: to deepen her understanding of how an organization like FNF operates internally, and how individual roles contribute to a greater mission.

While she enjoys a variety of tasks, it’s those that connect theory with practice that truly engage her. “If I had the chance to lead a campaign,” she reflects, “I’d love to explore the role of arts and theater as vehicles for youth empowerment and liberal values — especially in our local context.”

This term, she’s working on improving her multi-tasking abilities — a skill as essential in creative fields as it is in management.

Interns

Israa Al Batayneh

Curious. Expressive. Analytical.

For Israa, this term is all about growth — particularly in refining her design abilities and becoming more efficient in team settings. She finds herself most motivated when working on design-related projects, where she can express ideas visually and creatively.

Her dream campaign would center around self-development — perhaps through a book club that sparks conversation, reflection, and personal growth. As for the skills she hopes to develop, strategic thinking and advanced creative design are top of her list.

Farah Al Shobaky

Loyal. Hard-working. Passionate.

Farah returns to FNF with a goal that reflects her generous spirit: “I want to leave a mark that will help future interns.”

She finds energy in attending events and meeting new people — the social side of professional life that fosters both connection and learning. Her campaign idea is both practical and purposeful: a preparatory program for future GJU interns to help them feel more equipped and confident as they begin their journey at FNF.

This term, she is also focusing on improving her German language skills, adding yet another layer to her personal and professional toolkit.

Zaina Sharabi

Passionate. Stubborn. Sensitive.

Zaina joins this internship term with a desire to fully immerse herself in the experience of working within a political organization — understanding both its structure and its impact.

For her, every task is meaningful. “It always feels great to be able to contribute in any way I can,” she says. Her ideal campaign would explore youth political engagement in Jordan, a theme that aligns strongly with both her interests and FNF’s mission. This term, she’s focusing on deepening her skills in communications — a field she’s eager to grow in.

Looking Ahead

As this new internship term unfolds, we are excited to see how each intern grows in their role, challenges themselves, and contributes to our work at the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom office in Jordan. Their curiosity, creativity, and commitment reflect the very values we strive to uphold as a foundation. With ideas that inspire and goals that drive them forward, this group is already off to a strong start — and we’re glad to be part of their journey.
