Three Summers with Freedom
A Conversation with Our GJU Intern Farah Alshobaky

FARAH

At the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom (FNF), we believe that shaping the future begins with empowering young minds today. Through our longstanding partnership with the German Jordanian University (GJU), we offer students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience, contribute to liberal values, and thrive within a professional environment grounded in freedom, democracy, and human rights.

This summer, we were delighted to welcome back Farah Alshobaky — a dedicated and talented GJU student completing her third consecutive internship with us. Farah’s unwavering commitment, curiosity, and passion reflect the very spirit we aim to nurture through our internship program.

We sat down with Farah to reflect on her journey and explore what it means to be part of the FNF community.

Farah, tell us a bit about yourself.

“My name is Farah Alshobaky, I’m 20 years old and currently in my third year at GJU, where I study Business and Communication. I’m also part of the university’s dual studies program, which allows me to gain practical experience alongside my academic education. I’ve spent the past three summers interning with FNF.”

What motivated you to return to FNF each summer?

“The work environment at FNF is incredibly uplifting. I always felt valued, and that my contributions truly mattered. Each year brought something new—whether it was different tasks, unique challenges, or opportunities for growth. I could see myself evolving both professionally and personally.”

“Absolutely. Working on the Eco Vision project was a particularly memorable experience. I learned a great deal, connected with inspiring individuals, and created unforgettable memories. It also sparked a genuine interest in project management, and helped me grow not just professionally, but personally as well.”

How has your experience at FNF influenced your future goals?

“It’s had a significant impact. I can now clearly envision a future in the liberal political field. This internship deepened my appreciation for meaningful, values-based work—especially in areas like education, human rights, and freedom.”

“FNF’s unwavering commitment to human rights and equality on a global scale really stood out to me. I greatly admire the way the foundation promotes freedom and tolerance across diverse cultures. That international outlook has broadened my own perspective and fueled my interest in global collaboration.”

What does being part of FNF mean to you personally?

“To me, being part of FNF means contributing to something truly meaningful. It’s not just a workplace—it’s a community that upholds the values I deeply believe in.”

Final Thoughts

Farah’s journey embodies the core of what FNF strives to offer young people: a space to learn, evolve, and contribute to the advancement of liberal ideals. Her decision to return for three consecutive summers is a testament to the trust, openness, and encouragement we aim to cultivate.

We take particular pride in our partnership with the German Jordanian University. With its emphasis on practical learning, intercultural dialogue, and strong German-Jordanian ties, GJU has been instrumental in developing future change makers like Farah.

Through this collaboration, we remain committed to empowering students to embrace freedom-focused work, gain meaningful experience, and become advocates for democracy, human rights, and open societies—both in Jordan and beyond.

We’re honoured to have been part of Farah’s journey—and excited to see where her path leads next.
