Rainbow families across the European Union face profoundly different legal and social realities. This policy paper offers a comparative analysis of Estonia, Germany, Hungary, and Italy, revealing how divergent political choices shape access to marriage, parenthood, adoption, and cross-border recognition. While some countries have made decisive progress towards equality, others are entrenching legal uncertainty and exclusion. Drawing on legal analysis, expert interviews, and lived experiences, the publication highlights where Europe is advancing – and where fundamental rights for rainbow families remain fragile.
