FNF Korea recently had a pleasure to sponsor the 44th HUFS International Model United Nations (HIMUN) General Assembly which took place online, September 27.

HIMUN, founded in 1958, is the oldest foreign language academic organization for university students in Korea. With the sponsorship from various government agencies, embassies and private sectors, HIMUN annually offers opportunities for young people to discuss the important issues for the future of the international community through the model UN programs.

The 44th HUFS International Model United Nations (HIMUN) General Assembly took place with the theme of ‘Establishing international governance for future forests under the new climate system.’ With the advent of the climate problem, which is the biggest challenge and crisis the international community is facing, the importance of forest restoration and sustainable management is increasing. By addressing this important topic at the General Assembly of HIMUN, the younger generation and all who attended the event had the opportunity to discuss the importance of forest resources and climate change in the near future. The event was held entirely online due to the COVID-19.

The participating countries in the Model UN were Korea, Germany, Sweden, Kenya, China, Indonesia, Vietnam, the USA, and the UK. Interpreters translated seven languages, including six UN official languages (English, Chinese, Spanish, Russian, French, and Arabic) and Korean.

Through the event, FNF expects to draw the attention of the young generation to major global issues and to help them to express their ideas.
