Trade Between the US and Mexico

What are the consequences of the U.S.’s changed trade policy for Mexico, Europe, and, in particular, the German economy? The Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom, in collaboration with the think tank Mexican Institute for Competitiveness (IMCO), has published a study on the future of the free trade agreement between the U.S., Mexico, and Canada (USMCA). The U.S. government’s growing protectionist tendencies pose new challenges for the agreement and, consequently, for numerous investments by European and German companies in Mexico. Companies such as Volkswagen, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Bayer, Bosch, and Continental are closely monitoring these developments.

During this event, Valeria Moy, Director of IMCO, will present the key findings of the study as well as current developments regarding the future of North America as an economic region. Following her presentation, we will discuss the economic and political implications for Germany and Europe with her, Torsten Herbst—a member of the FDP’s Federal Executive Board and a business graduate—and Carsten Schryver, Managing Partner of Schryver Logistics. The discussion will be moderated by journalist Dr. Hildegard Stausberg. Look forward to a highly topical debate on the future of transatlantic trade. The event is organized in cooperation with the Latin America Association (LAV) in Hamburg. It will be held in English with simultaneous translation into German.
