30 Years of IAF
4) Berlin Meetings and Conferences
From pivotal political dialogues to powerful human rights advocacy, a series of influential international conferences brought liberal thought leaders and global changemakers together.
We're listing a few.
Berlin Meetings 1995 & 1997: The Return of Socialism
Continuing the spirit of the Lisbon Meetings, these high-level gatherings united liberal party leaders and top politicians—including Viktor Orbán, then a liberal reformer, and Namibia’s Hage Geingob. Curated and moderated by Gerhart Raichle, the 1997 meeting reached a diplomatic highlight with a state reception hosted by German President Johannes Rau.
Human Rights Conference 1998
Celebrating 40 years of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation, this international conference in Königswinter convened liberal leaders and dedicated human rights partners from around the world. With over 80 participants, it underscored the Foundation's global commitment to freedom and justice.
Minority Conference 2000
A platform for exploring the rights, representation, and integration of minorities, this gathering further expanded the liberal dialogue on inclusion and democratic participation.
Tibet Support Group Conference
Held in Berlin, this global summit of Tibet advocacy groups culminated in a powerful public event with the Dalai Lama at the House of World Cultures, drawing over 1,000 participants in support of Tibetan freedom.
