The International Academy for Leadership (IAF) is where future changemakers connect, learn, and lead. Through dynamic seminars, global networking, and cutting-edge learning formats, the IAF empowers liberal voices to tackle the world’s biggest political and social challenges—together.

The International Academy for Leadership (IAF), founded by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom three decades ago, is a global forum for political dialogue and leadership training. In close cooperation with the Foundation’s international projects, the IAF brings together experts, young liberals, and emerging leaders to tackle current issues in politics, business, and science.

Seminars and Workshops

Held at the Theodor Heuss Academy in Gummersbach and across Europe, IAF programs include:

  • Two-week seminars for young leaders

  • One-week sessions for experienced professionals

  • Skills workshops for international project partners

  • Access to the 30-day IIDH human rights seminar in Strasbourg

These events promote liberal values, cultural diversity, and cross-cultural understanding. They also strengthen global networks and support liberal thinkers in their home countries.

Topics and Methods

IAF focuses on themes like democracy, civil rights, education, civil society, rule of law, and market economy. Learning methods include role plays, debates, group work, and interactive discussions, supported by modern digital tools.

International e-Academy

To extend its reach, the IAF offers online and blended learning through its award-winning e-Academy, providing a platform for global networking and ongoing exchange among alumni and supporters.
