The Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom has been active in the South Caucasus since 1996. The work began with projects of the political education in Azerbaijan, from 2002 also in Armenia and Georgia. The office is located in Tbilisi, Georgia. The main focus of the work is the transformation process of former soviet republics towards modern democracies with free political systems based on social market economy and the rule of law.

International Conference: Journalists Defending Human Rights
Attacked, persecuted and imprisoned. Journalists who report on human rights violations are targeted simply for doing their job. To mark the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the 25th anniversary of the UN Declaration on Human Rights Defenders, the Friedrich Naumann Foundation and Reporters Without Borders Germany are jointly organising the international conference "Journalists Defending Human Rights" today. Listen to prominent human rights journalists, such as Nobel Prize winner Maria Ressa, as well as journalists from other countries.

Prisoner of Conscience: Afgan Sadygov, Azerbaijan
Discover the story of courage of Afgan Sadygov, an Azeri journalist and founder of Azel.tv, an independent news website. As its editor, Sadygov mainly tackled topics related to corruption and social injustice. He was often critical of the government and exposed wrongdoing by local officials.

20 years from Georgia’s Rose Revolution
November 23rd marks twenty years since Georgia’s Rose Revolution, a seminal event in Georgia’s modern history. On the 20th anniversary of the Rose Revolution, its legacy remains controversial due to its importance for current Georgian politics and, in the broader picture, the implication of "color revolutions" for what Russia calls its "near abroad." On the one hand, Georgia made a phenomenal leap forward during 2004-2012. On the other, many avoidable mistakes made by the young leaders of the Rose Revolution continue to haunt the country to date.

Innovation and Education: Which policies help both to cross-fertilize each other?
This was the core question of the Liberal Forum Armenia taking place in a country famous for IT innovation and one of the leaders in exporting ICT services. The forum provided a space for discussions among politicians, academics and civil society organizations.
