Phu Yen: FNF supports international cooperation to promote the value of geopark heritage and sustainable tourism

On July 23, in Tuy Hoa city, with the support from the Friedrich Naumann Foundation (FNF), the Institute of European Studies (Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences) and Phu Yen province organized Conference "International cooperation to promote the value of geopark heritage and sustainable tourism in Phu Yen province".

Participating in the conference "International cooperation to promote the value of geopark heritage and sustainable tourism in Phu Yen province" were also leaders of UNESCO Department of Cultural Affairs (Ministry of Foreign Affairs), representatives of the Secretariat and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Specialized sub-committee of the Vietnam National Committee for UNESCO, international experts from the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network (GGN); Leaders of Geopark Management Boards of Ha Giang, Cao Bang, Dak Nong and Lang Son provinces.

In his speeches at the Conference, leaders of Phu Yen Provincial People's Committee emphasized the role of international cooperation to promote local strengths, thereby determining the goal of building Phu Yen Geopark in order to contribute to the development of Phu Yen Geopark, creating a breakthrough for international economic integration, and connecting Phu Yen with partners in the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network.

At the conference, the delegates shared scientific reports on the geological park heritage of Phu Yen province by the international team of experts conducted in 2019 and the national-level scientific research team of experts. year 2021-2022.

Accordingly, the Conference unanimously stated: "Phu Yen fully meets the criteria for establishing a National Geopark towards a UNESCO Global Geopark, has all the potentials and opportunities to become a UNESCO Global Geopark. into a successful Global Geopark in the near future”.

The conference is an activity in the program of cultural diplomacy in 2022 of the People's Committee of Phu Yen province. Accompanying Phu Yen province to implement this activity, besides the specialized units of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, there are the Institute of European Studies and FNF.

The Institute of European Studies - a research and policy consulting unit on Vietnam's relations with European countries, is the first place to deploy the model of a global geopark UNESCO.

FNF Vietnam has been implementing many activities in Vietnam to support Vietnamese localities' international integration, especially the application of sustainable socio-economic development models such as "UNESCO Global Geopark" practice.

This is the second year in a row that the Institute of European Studies and FNF have supported Phu Yen province's international cooperation activities to effectively use the increasingly favorable frameworks for trade, investment and tourism between the two countries. Vietnam and the European region, contributing to achieving the local socio-economic development goals fast and sustainably.
