Rarely in history, ASEAN talked about human rights issues in the region. However, it is a different story nowadays. The working group for the ASEAN Human Rights Mechanisms started its first podcast episode for ASEAN Peoples Speak Programme on Spotify and on youtube. Subscribe here to listen to these episodes.

On November 5 2021, Ray Paolo Santiago, the secretary general of the working group, joined as a guest speaker to discuss rewards and challenges of human rights issues in Southeast Asia. Ray Paolo Santiago looks back at his experience in advocating human rights in the past 25 years and how he battles frustrations and compassion fatigue in the region.

The working group for the ASEAN Human Rights Mechanisms is composed of coalitions of light-minded individuals, such as government officials, attorneys, human rights workers and activists with the purpose for establishment and appropriate regional mechanisms to respond to human rights issues in the region.
