Belgrade Pride with big support from German liberals
The 25th edition of Belgrade Pride came to a successful close on Saturday with the Pride March. Several thousand people – members of the LGBTIQ community as well as engaged citizens – marched in support of an open society and civil rights for all Serbian citizens.
The Western Balkans office of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom is proud to support the wonderful local organizations that made this celebration possible. Gisela Piltz, a member of our Board of Trustees, was invited to join the opening of the parade and to carry the banner “There’s Room for All of Us”.
It was heartening to see that voices calling for tolerance and solidarity are still around in Serbia. A big thank you to our other guests, Michael Kauch, President of the LGBTI Liberals of Europe, and David Chalmers from the british Liberal Democrats, who participated in a panel discussion on the role of LGBTI rights in the EU accession process.
