SIYASIYYAT for women empowerment.

Females Lead in Politics – سياسيّات  is a program launched in 2021, in partnership between FNF and AFAAL. It aims to create a platform for women, incentivizing them to actively participate in politics and providing them with the needed tools and resources to develop their capacities.

The training was split between a series of preparatory online workshops that focus on technical and theoretical elections related topics and a power skills bootcamp that focuses more on building confidence, practicing public speaking, and community building.

As part of the online workshops, we held a meet and greet with Ria Schröder, a member of the Bundestag with the Free Democratic Party (FDP). The conversation with Ria entailed an exchange of ideas to learn more about women issues in Europe, and how female politicians work towards female-friendly solutions through public policies. Participants also sought lessons learned and discussed challenges faced from experience within the European context.

Over the three-day bootcamp, we undertook an intensive training focused mainly on public speaking and media training. Participants worked on formulating and writing their own speeches, with a focus on argumentative skills. Speech delivery was also part of the sessions and the participants got the chance to present their speeches and seek feedback from the others. Some sessions were also dedicated to campaigning, lobbying, fundraising, and networking, and a session was held to properly unpack the Lebanese electoral law.

Taking part in an event that is the ideal meeting place for women in Lebanon to network and exchange their ideas, the participants got a grasp of how to deal with the barriers that they might face on their way of becoming politically and publicly active.

Like last year, it was an enriching event full of fun and female power!

Through this program, we aim to FLIP the status quo and encourage more female leaders to kick-start their political journey and successfully lead in politics, and we are super proud that two of our FLIP alumnae will be running in this year‘s parliamentary elections.
