Christian Koester

Christian Koester is Director at the Friedrich Naumann Foundation’s World Order and Globalization Hub. He has been part of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation Washington Office since the beginning of 2024. Before joining, he worked in business development and as a consultant in the private sector, as well as serving as a program manager for the Foreign Affairs Association Munich.
Christian studied political science at the Institute of Politics at the Ludwigs-Maximilans-Universität in Munich and Global Development at the Open University in the UK. He is a native German speaker and speaks English as well as some French and Farsi.

Donald J. Trump's election in 2024 was largely based on economic dissatisfaction and social tensions in the US. Before he took office, the economy was burdened by weak growth, high inflation, and the aftermath of the coronavirus crisis. At the same time, migration and job losses in traditional industries played a central role in the voting behavior of many Americans.

Future of Energy Transition and Security
The World Order and Globalization Hub welcomed its final delegation of the year in December, consisting of eight experts in the energy sector, with their collective expertise focusing on energy security and energy policy. The delegation comprised of participants representing Chile, Czechia, Romania, Senegal, Slovakia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and Tunisia. The delegates included Members of Parliament, Policy Advisors, Engineers, Economists, and Entrepreneurs.

The Impact of US and China Green Protectionism on Global South Countries.
In collaboration with the Global South in the World Order Project of the Stimson Center in Washington, DC, the think tank produced a detailed policy paper on the topic "Great Power Competition and Green Protectionism: The Impact of the US-China Trade War on Global South Countries." Following the publication of this paper, we had the opportunity to further explore the topic in a virtual round table discussion.
