The Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom (FNF) is the German foundation for liberal politics which was created in 1958. The work of the FNF is based on the democratic formation of responsible citizens, political advice of leaders and international political dialogue. In more than 60 countries around the world, the Foundation concentrates its efforts on cooperating with its counterparts for the creation and promotion of strategies that generate liberal proposals for the development of the countries in which it works; proposals that emphasize the importance of an informed and participatory society, that promote the value of freedom, the virtues of the liberal democracy as well as the respect for Human Rights and the Rule of Law. Likewise, the FNF promotes the sustainable development of smart cities that combines economic growth with the purpose of improving the quality of life of individuals.

In Central America, the Friedrich Naumann Foundation has been present for more than 35 years. Currently the Office for Central America (CA) is headquartered in Tegucigalpa (Honduras), from where the work of the Alianza para Centroamérica is coordinated. The members of the Alianza are the liberal think-tanks, organizations of the civil society as well as political parties, with which the FNF cooperates in Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama.

The Alianza para Centroamérica seeks to contribute to the promotion of a joint understanding regarding the challenges the region faces, as well as to develop common liberal positions and policies, where this is conducive. Its efforts are focused on the following topics: entrepreneurship, education, Human Rights, liberalization of electricity markets, development of smart cities and training of leaders. The Alianza para Centroamérica promotes a community of Central American citizens that empowers a generation of leaders in freedom to build a region that allows each individual to fulfil their longings.
